Thumbnail Text Generator

Generate concise, clear thumbnail text for YouTube videos.

About this tool

Thumbnail text is 3–6 words, usually — but those words carry an enormous amount of weight. Too vague and nobody clicks; too long and it cannot be read on mobile. This tool generates clear, punchy thumbnail text that communicates the video's value at a glance and works at any thumbnail size.

How to use Thumbnail Text Generator

  1. Describe what your video is about and what the main benefit or hook is

  2. The tool will generate short text options sized for a thumbnail

  3. Test a few options by placing them over your thumbnail image

  4. Pick the one that is readable at small sizes and creates curiosity or a clear benefit

Frequently asked questions

How long should thumbnail text be?
Three to six words maximum. Thumbnails are viewed at small sizes in feeds and on mobile. Any text longer than five or six words becomes unreadable.
Should thumbnail text match the title?
Not necessarily. The title and thumbnail work together — the thumbnail can tease something and the title can complete the thought, or vice versa. They should complement each other, not repeat each other.
What font size works for thumbnails?
At least 60–80px for 1280×720 thumbnails. Bold fonts with high contrast between text and background are readable at the smallest sizes YouTube displays thumbnails.
